History

Pelican Point Golf Community is located in Ascension Parish and in the unincorporated area of Burnside, named for John Burnside. Mr. John Burnside who was born in Ireland and moved to New Orleans from Virginia, was one of the wealthiest persons in the nation during the pre Civil War period. In the 1850’s the wealthy Mr. Burnside sold much of his interest in New Orleans and moved to Ascension Parish. He bought five plantations in Ascension parish with over 7500 acres in sugar cane, producing over 7 million pounds of sugar in 1861. Pelican Point, a GC subdivision which contains over 800 acres that was once a part of this large plantation, is now the home of over 700 families, two golf courses, and a retail shopping center. We continue to grow and when completed, there will be over 1000 households.

Ascension Parish is one of the fastest growing parishes (counties) in the nation. Nearby in the parish are the homes of the Jambalaya (Gonzales) and Boucherie (Sorrento) capitals of the world with their associated festivals. Within five miles of our subdivision there is shopping for everyone including a Cabela’s, the World’s foremost outfitter, and Tanger Outlet Mall. The subdivision is also served by our Main Street Mall that is accessible via golf cart from within the subdivision.

Our residents, like our history, are very diverse. They are from first time home owners to retirees. Our homes are also diverse and range from townhouses and garden homes to estate homes. People from all over the globe have chosen to live in our community subdivision.
